After serving as Fire Chief since 2000, Melton Potter retired from the department in October of 2008 following a successful campaign for the Mayor’s office. After 20 years of service in the department, Captain Chris White was appointed to Fire Chief effective December 1, 2008.

With the retirement of Chief Potter and Chief White’s appointment, the following promotions took place:

Lieutenant Roger Myers was promoted to Captain.

Driver David Jones was promoted to Lieutenant.

Firefighter Rodney Evans was promoted to Driver.

Dawson Beaird was hired as the newest member of the Scottsboro Fire Department. Dawson will be beginning his certification school in March and is scheduled to graduate in June.
