Seniors are given the opportunity to play cards, or bingo, and board games, or participate in exercise programs, dance classes, luncheons and parties. They can visit with authors and learn more about creative writing by joining the writing group. They can learn to knit in a knitting class or to make floral arrangements in a flower arranging class. They can learn the art of digital photography or socialize while making scrapbooks.
Each year the Centers co-sponsor a Senior Expo that is visited by seniors from across the state. Health fairs are common at the centers, providing glucose and blood pressure screenings. Our senior citizens are kept abreast of the latest in senior news from Medicare coverage to legislation that will affect their lives. During one of the most dreaded times of the year, tax time, seniors are assisted with their tax return preparation. They may get legal advice from a visiting attorney.
Our seniors are a lively bunch, and our senior centers cater to those needs by assisting with and providing them with a source of challenging activities.
The Scottsboro Center is also the home of the Scottsboro Nutrition program. The program provides nutritious meals to seniors each weekday. The Meals on Wheels program provides meals to those who are homebound.
