Fire Chief
Chief White began his employment with the City of Scottsboro more than 29 years ago. He joined the Fire Department just a few short years later. During his career with the department he served the community as a firefighter, driver/engineer, lieutenant and captain. His promotion to chief marked the retirement of the past chief, Melton Potter, who went on to become the city’s mayor. During his tenure with the department, Chief White worked many years under the direction of former Chief Lonnie Webb.

Citizens within the city limits of Scottsboro may obtain burn permits by calling 574-2617. Burn permits are free and are good for a period of two days. People outside the city limits must call the Alabama Forestry Commission at 1-800-572-2017 to obtain a burn permit. Items that may be burned are brush, leaves, wood, paper, boxes, etc. Items prohibited from burning are tires, oils, plastics, rubber, shingles, vinyl siding, and foam products. Anyone violating the burn ordinance by burning without a permit or burning prohibited items shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not exceeding $200.00. |
